Fifteen years ago Nasima married Shah Alam, a wage laborer earning about 200 taka per week. Those were years of hardship. Now the couple own a small scale plastic factory and a 16.5 decimals plot of land in their village. This success is the result of the tremendous efforts put in by Nasima and her husband. SAJIDA too played an important role. It provided Nasima with credit, training and peer support.

It was Nasima’s initiative that started the miracle. After passing the first ten years of their marriage in crushing poverty, Nasima started buying spoons, glasses and bowls from the factory where her husband worked, and selling them door-to-door. It worked well. They were able to raise the level of their income to 5,000 taka per month. Meanwhile, the size of their family had increased to 5. Also, now they had to send 2,000 taka each month to their parents in the village. It was hard to support the family even though their earning had increased several folds. It was around this time Nasima heard about the Credit Program of SAJIDA. She enrolled and took a loan of 3,000 taka. This was in 1989. Now, Nasima and Shah Alam have a saving of 15,000 taka. Their factory producing plastic toys and goods runs with a capital of 64,000 taka. Nasima thus sets an example. With initiative and assistance fate can be changed We hope that the partnership of Nasima and SAJIDA will continue for many more years and she and her family will continue to prosper.
